From The Power of Candy to Red-Shirted Ensigns

So on a flight last weekend, they showed the new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie, and it got me to thinking…

The chocolate factory is so insane, it's clearly explainable as being a Chancel, with Willy Wonka as the Power of Candy, and Oompa-Loompas as the curious Chancelfolk, which he took up into the factory when he created it. He must then be one of those Nobles who are not immortal, so he is trying to hand-pick his own successor. This would make for a good framework for a Nobilis game, possibly a LARP—a Power feels his or her time is running out and the players are all mortals (quite possibly Anchors), who are competing for the position. It'd be like the most high-stakes reality show ever.

(Going back to Wonka for a moment, I'd say that, based on how things work in the factory, his Familia probably includes Music or Dance and Karma or maybe Justice as its other unseen members. Wonka probably has a special Gift that lets him Anchor people by giving them a Golden Ticket, and once this comes to pass, he will come to either love or hate the recipient within a day of their actual meeting.)

On a different thread, I noted that in the new movie all the Oompa-Loompas are exactly clones, and the ones in each part of the factory have identical-color outfits. You could use Paranoia to run an Oompa-Loompa game, where you get experimental candy and need to go troubleshoot problems in the bowels of the factory. "Mr. Wonka is your friend. You aren't questioning him, are you, Confectionist?"

Then, there's the idea of using Paranoia for other random expendable mook games, like Star Trek Away Teams. The PCs get to be red-shirted ensigns that beam down with the real crew, and get zapped by aliens most of the time. The transporter is used to get fresh clones down there immediately. In fact, they might not be clones at all, but rather copies produced by fiddling with the transporter buffer. In fact, the various Star Trek series might be propaganda put out by the fascist Federation government, to convince its citizens it does good and they should join the proud ranks of Star Fleet, when the truth is another matter entirely…

This one also got some responses.
